Amendments have been adapted to SOLAS regulation V/19 to make the carriage of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) and Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm Systems (BNWAS) mandatory under SOLAS chapter V, safety of navigation. Implementation will start on 1 July 2011.
It’s time to think about how to comply with these regulations and how to retrofit your fleet with BNWAS.
For example, we can offer you the BW-800 System from Uni-Safe. This system complies with MSC 128(75) and is in the final stage of type approval by DNV. Uni-Safe advise us that performance tests have been successful, and they are just awaiting final confirmation of compliance with the latest standards IEC 62616.
The system is designed for easy retrofit on existing vessels and is also a good solution for newbuilds.
The system comprises an alarm unit for installation in bridge console, bulkhead or wall mounting on the bridge. There are also reset units for installation on the bridge and alarm units for installation in accommodation areas. A selector switch enables up to 6 alarm units to be installed in accommodation areas and be activated selectively. Furthermore, a motion sensor on the bridge can be connected to the system so that no alert is started as long as movement is registered in the wheelhouse.
Next to the BW-800 systems we have other solutions to offer – from a basic system complying purely with the requirements without any additional features up to a sophisticated system. Such feature-rich systems not only provide motion sensor and emergency call functionality but can also be connected to a number of navigational alarms and even to SSAS, which can be seen as a ’4th stage alarm’.
All systems can be installed by the crew onboard. For configuration and final commissioning we recommend attendance of a trained service engineer.
